The training is over and the countdown is officially on for this year’s Grant Thornton Runway Run. Unbelievably, there are just days to go until hundreds of runners prepare to take on the 5k race at George Best Belfast City Airport on 23rd June.
The runway will be illuminated by the airfield lights, giving participants the chance to gaze at the Belfast skyline while running down the tarmac.
Like last year, demand for places has been high. This year’s event has attracted businesses from across Northern Ireland ranging from Arthur Cox, Bank of Ireland, Pollock Lifts, Viridian Group, Almac, Translink, Omexom, Todds Leap, Belfast Telegraph, George Best City Airport Fire Service and Comco Plastics.
As well as being an excellent chance for local businesses to network, and promote physical wellbeing, the race will also allow the winners to take the title of Grant Thornton Runway Run Champion 2016.
Prizes will be awarded in three categories – male, female and mixed, with team members finishing times combined to determine the winner.
This year, the team with the fastest combined time in each category will receive £500 vouchers from Todds Leap. These can be used by the team’s company to enjoy team building experience days.
Wishing runners good luck ahead of the event, Maria Kelly, Sales Executive at Todds Leap, said:
“We are delighted to be taking part in the Grant Thornton Runway Run. The atmosphere last year was surreal and I’m looking forward to that unique experience this year with a new team.
“At Todds Leap we’re always pushing boundaries and trying new things and this is a really exciting chance for some team bonding.
“As a team, we are pleased to know that our fundraising will help support the event’s charity partner. The Mary Peters Trust is a local charity supporting the professional development of young people, a value that we share as an organisation.
“As the race approaches may I take this chance to wish all the runners the very best of luck. See you all at the starting line. May the best teams win!”
