Momentum for this year’s Grant Thornton Runway Run is building as places begin to fill up.
Businesses from across the province are registering in their droves for one of the most exciting and innovative events in the Northern Ireland business calendar.
The highly anticipated Grant Thornton Runway Run is making its return to the bright lights of the runway at George Best Belfast City Airport at 11pm Thursday 23 June.
Making stuffy office icebreakers a thing of the past, the 5k race has garnered a reputation for providing a fantastic and novel opportunity for local companies to engage in a worthwhile team building exercise as well as presenting a fun opportunity for light-hearted networking.
Open to firms of all sizes, this year’s Runway Run has already attracted a large number of entries from businesses spanning a wide range of sectors and many firms who took part last year have re-entered with renewed vigour.
Noel Kelly, Geotechnical Engineer at AECOM, said:
“My colleagues and I became interested in last year’s event as the concept of a ‘runway run’ was quite different to any races we had taken part in before and sparked our curiosity.
“At AECOM, we are always looking to improve team building while promoting an active lifestyle and this certainly fitted the bill. The fact that we would be racing against other businesses in Belfast simply added to the attraction of the event!
“The Runway Run is a really enjoyable and unique event which has combined the benefits of team bonding and physical fitness for our team at AECOM. This year, we have registered even more participants than last year and I would encourage any businesses who value the physical wellbeing of their employees to enter.”
Simon Ballentine, Company Secretary & Financial Accountant at AJ Power, said:
“The Grant Thornton Runway Run was a superb event last year and provided a truly unique experience! The excitement felt by all runners at the prospect of racing round the airport runway was palpable and created a fantastic atmosphere.
The team at AJ Power are all thoroughly looking forward to taking part again this year!”
The race is open to all businesses and organisations in Northern Ireland who are invited to enter a team of four in one or more of three categories – male, female and mixed.
Conor Kerr, Solicitor at John McKee Solicitors, said:
“The Grant Thornton Runway Run was fantastic last year. We, at John McKee Solicitors, had two teams of four and will be entering two again this year.
“You couldn’t find a flatter, straighter course and for regular runners it’s the perfect opportunity for a ‘personal best’.
“It’s not only a great running event but a perfect opportunity to network with like-minded people from businesses right across Northern Ireland.
“The success of last year’s event is sure to mean that this year will be even bigger and better.”
Grant Thornton has selected The Mary Peters Trust as its charity partner for the 2016 Runway Run.
Richard Gillan, Managing Partner at Grant Thornton (NI) LLP said:
“We are delighted with the success of last year’s Runway Run and indeed that so many businesses have already signed up for this year’s race.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for employees to network and for local businesses to establish relationships with each other. We would encourage businesses to sign up sooner rather than later as places are limited.”
